Tour the Fitz Wetlands Educational Resource Center (the WERC), an important resource and activity center for students and teachers in the Pajaro Valley schools. Learn about the Watsonville Wetlands Watch, the organization which runs the WERC and which is dedicated to the preservation of Watsonville's wetlands. Explore a native-plant restoration area and enjoy views of the wetlands and its active birdlife.
Tours originate from the Fitz Wetlands Educational Resource Center, located at 500 Harkins Slough Road on the Pajaro Valley High School campus. From the intersection of Green Valley and Main Street, travel toward the ocean for approximately 1 mile. Enter the PV High campus and continue to the top of campus, where the Fitz Wetlands Center is located. Map.
All tours are free to the public, but reservations are required 48 hours in advance; they can be made by calling the WERC at 831-728-1156 or by e-mail to Genie Dee. . Visitors should wear walking shoes and dress for an outdoor walk of one-half to one mile on uneven ground (mild grassy slopes).
